Incorporate Healthy Living in Your Practice
Like us, you want your patients to be as healthy as possible. You also want your staff to also be healthy because they are an integral part of your practice. So, how can you make healthy living a priority in your office? We’ll share a few things that have worked for us.
1. Be an Example
If you want others to follow your lead, you should practice what you preach. Provide a few healthy snack options in the break room for your staff to enjoy; bring in a massage therapist once a month to give 10-minute chair massages; award prizes such as fitness trackers or a spa day gift certificate to star employees.
2. Start with Small Changes
Making the decision to be active and healthy doesn’t mean you must completely overhaul your lifestyle overnight. Little things such as taking time out as a team to stretch or take a quick walk around the building are great steps in the right direction. Celebrating a staff birthday? You can still have cake, but maybe you can replace the main meal with a salad bar. We do that often here in our offices: everyone brings their favorite salad topping to share and we end up with a bigger spread than one of those popular soup and salad restaurants!
3. Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is
Oftentimes, people can feel overwhelmed by just the thought of “getting healthy.” Gym memberships and fresh, nutritious food can be costly, which is one of the main reasons we put it off. If you can, help offset some of the costs for your employees to get started. Gift cards to a healthy grocery store would be greatly appreciated. Or, how about participating as a team in a local fun-run or walk and paying for part of the registration fees? Not only does it benefit your employees, but it’s also a fantastic way to get your name out in your community.
We truly hope this inspires you and your practice to be healthier, while encouraging your patients to do the same. Have you taken any steps to become a healthy workplace? We’d love to hear your ideas in the comments.
