You’ve been invited to join the first ever SmartPractice Healthier Practices Wellness Initiative, where all year you can better focus on wellness for your practice, team and patients and clients.

Each quarter, you will focus on a different wellness topic. The first topic is Physical Wellness.

Physical Wellness

Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Everyone can experience the health benefits of physical activity — age, abilities, ethnicity, shape or size do not matter.

The benefits of regular physical activity include:

  • Improving brain health
  • Weight management
  • Reducing disease
  • Strengthening bones and muscles
  • Increasing ability to perform everyday activities

While exploring physical wellness, you can participate in a challenge, learn tips and educate your team, patients and clients along the way!

5 Day Healthy Selfie Challenge

To complete the physical wellness challenge, follow these steps each day for five days and take a selfie/photo of yourself doing the activity:

  1. Take a walk for 15 minutes
  2. Stretch for 10 minutes before bedtime
  3. Wall sit for 1 minute
  4. Hold a plank for 30 seconds
  5. March in place for 3 minutes

*Reminder to consult with your doctor before engaging in any physical activity or exercise and stop if feeling ill or pain.*

Encourage your team/staff to join in for the week and even create a friendly office competition! Also, share on your practice’s social media pages inviting your patients and clients to join in the challenge too.

Tips to Stay Active During the Day

Regular physical activity is so important for your overall wellness, but sometimes it can be hard to find time during the day to be active. It doesn’t have to be a full out, intense workout. Staying active can be very easy.

Whether you’re working, at home or on-the-go, here are some easy ideas on how to stay active:

  • Take a walk
  • Use the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Stand and/or exercise at your desk
  • Do some work around your house
  • Park at the far end of the parking lot
  • Participate in an exercise class
  • Play with your kids

Resources

There are many great resources available to learn more about physical wellness. Below are a few that discuss the importance of exercise, staying motivated and more.

Share these resources, and any you find on your own, with your team, patients and clients. Include them in your practice newsletter, send an email blast or share on your social media. Also, encourage your practice to research on their own about the importance of physical wellness.

Educate your practice

As part of the Healthier Practices Wellness Initiative, you’re invited to take the information shared and use it to educate your practice. Include your staff and learn together. Share with your patients and clients so they can learn with you.

Utilize social media, email, newsletters, etc. to share information, resources and tips with your team and patients and clients. Create challenges and encourage participation in activities to make it fun for everyone!
